Langtang trekking is a popular and classic trek of Nepal. Langtang trekking route goes through traditional ethnic villages and untouched forests on the way to the peaks of Langtang-Lirung. The highlights of Langtang treks include a visit to the Langtang valley, Kyangin Gompa, Langtang Gompa, plenty of yaks heard on alpine meadows and Langtang Lirung Glacier. In Langtang treks you can also climb to the Lang Sisa Peak and visit Lake Gosaikunda, which is nearby this trekking. In summer each year, the valley floor and alpine slopes of Langtang bloom profusely with primula, poppy and other alpine flowers that makes the trekking more exciting and memorable. Langtang trekking is the name given to the treks from the name of Langtang valley in central Nepal. Langtang is a narrow valley lying south of Tibetan border. The valley lies between main Himalaya range to the north and small snowy peaks to the south. For this trekking you catch a bus to Syabrubeshi via Trishuli Bajaar and Dhunche. Syabrubeshi is the trekking starting place.
The important mountains in Langtang treks are Langtang Lirung 7246m, Gang Chhenpo 6388m, Naya Kangri 5846m and Dorje Lakpa 6966m. Other mountains like Himchuli, Manaslu and Ganesh Himal as well as the Shishapangma mountain of Tibet are also seen from some parts of Langtang trekking. Just next to Langtang valley is the beautiful Gosainkunda Lake, also an important Hindu pilgrimage site. Gosainkunda is also a popular trekking spot. From Gosainkunda, Helambu trekking is closer. They are just separated by a mountain pass. Helambu is a culturally rich Sherpa settlement and easily accessible from Kathmandu on a half day drive. Langtang, Gosainkunda and Helambu are independent treks on their own but they can be combined as one single trekking route from one week to 15 days long.

Langtang is towards the north of the Kathmandu Valley and just south of the Tibetan boarder. It is sandwiched between the main Himalayan range to the north and a slightly lower range of snowy peaks to the south. To the west of Langtang is Ganesh Himal with a range of 6,000 to 7,000 meters. The northern parts of the area largely fall within the boundaries of Langtang National Parks.The main ethnic groups here are Sherpa and tamang whose religious practices, languages and dress are much similar to those of Tibet. A visit to the Langtang Valley offers an opportunity to explore villages, climb small peaks and visit glaciers at a comfortably low elevation. Gosaikunda lies north of Kathmandu. The Gosaikunda loop is quite remote and thinly populated area. Gosaikunda, a glacier lake, is the most famous one with several others glacier lakes adjoining it. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims visit the lakes during a full- moon festival in August and Hindu people believe that the god Mahadev (Shiva), intoxicated by grief due to his wife’s (Pārbati) death, felt thirsty so he hit the stone with his holy stick, thus creating the lakes. In the same place Lake Gosaikunda originates and Hindu people believe that the image of Mahadev can be seen in the middle surface of the water. The lake is also scared to Buddhists.
